The Comic Effects tool transforms ordinary photographs into colourful comic-style artwork inspired by both modern graphic novels and vintage printed comics. With a choice of presets and adjustable controls, you can create anything from bold ink drawings to classic halftone printing effects.
Whether you're creating artwork for social media, posters, greetings cards or simply experimenting with your favourite photographs, the app makes it easy to produce eye-catching comic-style images.
What the app does
The app combines stronger colours, simplified shading, comic-style outlines and optional printed-dot textures to give your photographs a completely different appearance. Instead of simply applying a filter, you can adjust each part of the effect until it matches the style you're looking for.
The built-in presets provide quick starting points, while the sliders allow you to fine-tune every aspect of the finished artwork.
How to use the Comic Effects tool
Click Upload Image or drag a photograph into the upload area. Once your image appears, choose one of the comic presets to create an instant effect.
You can then adjust the sliders to strengthen or soften the comic appearance. Every change is shown immediately in the preview, making it easy to compare different settings before downloading the finished image as a JPG, PNG or WebP file.
Understanding the controls
Comic Strength controls how much of the comic effect is applied. Ink Lines adjusts the visibility of the outlines, while Line Thickness controls how bold those outlines appear.
Colour Punch increases colour intensity, Poster Strength simplifies colour shading into flatter comic-style areas, and Brightness and Contrast help fine-tune the overall appearance.
For vintage comic printing, Comic Dots controls the strength of the halftone effect, Dot Size changes the size of the printed dots and Dot Spacing adjusts how closely they are arranged.
Choosing a preset
Classic Comic creates a balanced comic-book appearance with clear outlines and bold colours. Colour Pop produces brighter, more vibrant artwork with softer line work, while Bold Ink gives a stronger illustrated appearance with more noticeable outlines.
If you're aiming for the look of older printed comics, Vintage Print Dots adds a traditional halftone pattern that recreates the appearance of classic comic-book printing.
Experiment without worrying
Undo lets you step back through your recent adjustments, while Original Image allows you to compare your artwork with the untouched photograph at any time.
If you'd like to start again, simply reset the controls and try another preset or create your own combination of colours, outlines and dot effects until you achieve exactly the comic style you want.
