Ready to get started? Open the free Painting App here.
What does this app do?
The Paint Over Image app lets you draw directly onto a photo or picture using a selection of simple painting tools. Whether you want to highlight part of an image, add notes, sketch ideas, mark up a photograph or simply have fun painting, everything can be done in your browser without installing any software.
You can choose between a soft brush for painted strokes, a fine pen for neat lines, a translucent highlighter for emphasising areas and an eraser for removing your own marks without affecting the original picture.

Upload your image
Click the Upload Image button or drag an image into the upload area. Once your picture has loaded, it appears in the preview ready for painting.
The original image remains available throughout your editing session, so if you want to start again you can simply reload it and clear all of your painted strokes.
Choose the right painting tool
Select the tool that best suits what you want to create.
- Brush creates smooth, soft paint strokes.
- Pen draws clean, narrow lines for more accurate work.
- Highlighter produces wide, semi-transparent strokes that allow the image underneath to remain visible.
- Eraser removes your painted marks while leaving the original picture unchanged.

Adjust your brush settings
The controls let you customise the way each tool behaves. Change the paint colour, increase or reduce the brush size, adjust the opacity for stronger or lighter strokes, and alter the brush softness to create either crisp or gently blended edges.
These settings can be changed at any time while you are working, making it easy to combine different styles in the same picture.
Undo changes and download your work
If you make a mistake, use the Undo and Redo buttons to step backwards or forwards through your recent changes. When you are happy with the finished image, choose whether to save it as a JPG, PNG or WebP file before downloading it to your device.
The finished image includes both the original picture and everything you have painted onto it, ready to share, print or continue editing elsewhere if you wish.
