How can you turn a photo into a winter scene?
The Snow Effects Photo Tool lets you add realistic snowfall and a cold winter atmosphere to almost any photograph. You can create anything from a light dusting of snow to a full blizzard, while also adding frosty colours, freezing fog and subtle winter lighting to complete the effect.
Everything happens in your browser, so you can experiment with different looks and download the finished image when you are happy with the result.

Start with a preset
Upload your photograph and choose one of the built-in presets to get started quickly. Light Snow creates a gentle winter feel, Winter Scene produces a balanced snowy landscape, Blizzard adds heavy driving snow, while Frozen Morning creates a cold frosty atmosphere with very light snowfall, layered freezing fog and crisp winter colours.
The presets are only starting points, so every setting can be adjusted afterwards to create exactly the effect you want.
Fine-tune the snowfall
Use the sliders to control the amount of snow, its density, flake size and the strength of the wind. You can also choose between soft round flakes, fine distant snow, large woolly flakes or wind-blown snow depending on the type of weather you want to create.
Snow Brightness now affects the snow itself rather than the whole photograph. Lower settings produce softer, more delicate flakes, while higher settings create brighter snow with a gentle glow that helps nearby flakes stand out naturally.

Create a colder atmosphere
The tool offers much more than falling snow. Cold Colour cools the overall appearance of the photograph, Frost Tint adds a subtle icy tone, while Cold Haze produces soft layered freezing fog that gives the impression of cold morning air rather than a simple white overlay.
Edge Shade can also be used to darken the outer edges of the image slightly, helping to draw attention towards the centre of the picture.
Suitable photos
The effect works well with gardens, parks, woodland, villages, streets, mountains, lakes, rivers and country scenes. It can also be used on portraits to create festive or seasonal photographs, especially when the subject is wearing winter clothing.
Because every control can be adjusted independently, it is easy to create anything from the first light snowfall of the season to severe winter weather.
Save your finished picture
When you are satisfied with the result, download the edited image as a JPEG, PNG or WebP file. If you would like to start again, simply click Reload Original Image to restore your uploaded photograph and reset all the editing controls.
